Pat and Moose

"I've always loved animals -their loving expressive nature makes them wonderful subjects for portraits. What makes all animals unique is their distinct features. I rely on photographs if I don't have the opportunity to meet and photograph the animal myself. I then sketch the animal on paper the same size as the surface I will be using. Most often, I compose the sketch from several photos. I generally have a portion of the dog visually leave the canvas, to accentuate the "in your face" characteristic of my paintings."

"What better way to convey the joy, companionship and pleasure our companions have given us? After the client approves of the sketch, I transfer it to the surface I will paint it on. I start with the eyes. What better way to connect than through the soul of the animal? The bold contrasting colors, loose, uninhibited brush strokes and repeated layers of colors reflect the energy I have put into the artwork. My deep love I have for animals is what brings the portrait to life. I also believe those same feelings are what brings the portrait to life. Based on the testimonials I receive back from my clients, this energy and love comes back out, impacting the viewer, resulting in a big smile and sometimes tears. After all, our companions and a smile are a few of life's simple pleasures."

Pat Saunders-White has gained a national following for her ability to capture a pet's image. Her distinctive style, stunning combination of subject matter, bold composition and searing color is instantly recognizable.
